Scott Dixon Invincible in Race for IndyCar Title

Not an IndyCar fan? Still worth the read.

Points leader Scott Dixon entered Sunday's race at Portland atop the standings with just two races left in the season. Just seconds into Lap 1, a five-car crash swept Dixon into the dirt on Turn 3.

Day Over. Points Lead Gone.

Or so we thought...

With minimal damage, Dixon rose from the dust and proceeded to race more than 20 seconds behind. He later pitted on Lap 5 to repair the damage, pushing him more than a lap off the pace.

Then He Did The Unthinkable

Car by car, Dixon leapfrogged the field over the next 100 laps, passing 16 people and securing a 5th-place finish and 30 points. He currently holds a 29-point lead on 2nd-place Alexander Rossi (finished 8th on Sunday) in what's now a two-man show in the finale at Sonoma on Sept. 16.
