UEFA Champions League: Day 1 Recap

An exciting opening round of the group stage included a Tottenham meltdown, a Messi hat trick, and a Liverpool-PSG shootout. Check out Tuesday's notes and scores from the pitch.

Messi Scores 3 in Barcelona 4-0 Win

In the most lopsided game of the day, Barca embarrassed PSV, 4-0. Lionel Messi netted his first of three goals on a set piece strike. His second two insurance goals weren't too bad, either.

Tottenham Total Meltdown in 2-1 Loss to Inter

After Christian Eriksen scored a deflected goal for Spurs in the second half, Tottenham looked like they had this one in the bag. Mauro Icardi one-timed a cross to the bottom left corner in the 83rd minute to bring Inter even at 1-1. Then, a redirected Inter corner ended up in the back of the net off the head of Matias Vecino in the 89th minute. Tottenham blew it

Liverpool Strikes Last Against Paris, 3-2

Liverpool opened up the group stage at home against one of the most talented rosters on the planet in Paris Saint-Germain, and they lit up the first half with two quick goals. Paris got one back before half, then phenom Kylian Mbappe scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute (2-2). In what looked like the second Premier League meltdown of the day, Liverpool found a resurgent attack late as Roberto Firmino slotted the game-winner to the bottom left corner (89').
