Five Guys, Dingers and Fries (And a Gatorade Bath)
Note: This section is not sponsored by that burger joint. These are just five ballplayers who messed around and had a night at the ballpark. Enjoy.
The Grandyman Can
Milwaukee's 37-year old Curtis Granderson was a double away from the cycle last night in his return to Chicago. Grandy went 3-for-3 with a walk, including a single, triple, and a solo shot in the top of the 9th to aid the Brewers' win over the Cubs (5-1). Milwaukee is now one game back of Chicago.
Not a typo. Tampa ace Blake Snell was brilliant on the mound again, pitching a 1-hitter with 9 Ks through seven innings in a 3-1 Rays' win over Cleveland. Snell is now 19-5 (most wins in the majors). He's won seven straight. Tampa Bay is 9-2 in the month of September.
Oakland's 3rd Inning Derby
The Athletics beat the Orioles 10-zip, and all 10 runs came in the 3rd. Out of all the A's nominations for this section, Ramon Laureano had three hits (single, double and triple) and a stolen base.
Rockies' Duo Arenado & LeMaheiu
Colorado re-extended the division lead on Arizona (this division is wild) with a 5-4 win. Nolan Arenado doubled and homered to keep the Rockies close. Down 4-3 in the 9th with one man on, D.J. LeMahieu hit a walk-off blast for the win, then got a Gatorade shower (is that Glacier Freeze or Blue Frost?). Rockies back up 3.5 games on Arizona in the NL West.
Playoff Race Note: Dodgers win (Cardinals lose) to bring L.A. a game closer in the NL Wild Card race. Yankees loss shrinks their AL Wild Card lead to one game.
