Red Sox Beat Yankees to Advance to ALCS
It was 4-0 in favor of Boston through four innings when the desperate Yankees came storming back. They cut into the deficit with a run in the 5th and two in the 9th before Craig Kimbrel finally ended the rally. Boston won 4-3 and will meet the Houston Astros in the ALCS.
9th Inning Rally
A shaky Craig Kimbrel stepped to the mound with a 4-1 lead in the 9th after Chris Sale retired the side in the 8th. Kimbrel walked Aaron Judge and gave up a single to Didi Gregorius to put runners on first and second. After striking out Giancarlo Stanton, he walked Luke Voit and hit Neil Walker to give up the first run.
Sanchez Sends One
With a 4-2 lead, three on and one out in the bottom of the 9th, Gary Sanchez smacked a ball that had walk-off grand slam written all over it. Man, that would have been a story (a Yankees walk-off grand slam to beat the Red Sox in the playoffs). It fell short at the warning track but scored Gregorius with the sac fly. 4-3, Sox.
With two on and two out, Kimbrel pitched Gleyber Torres to a slow roller to third. Ball game, Sox.
