Ronaldo Removed in Champions League Day 2

Manchester City collapsed,  the rest of the European powerhouses cruised, and Cristiano Ronaldo got the most ridiculous red card for giving someone a noogie… really.

The Ronaldo Red

Juventus bypassed Valencia 2-0, as they should have, but the story of the game was Cristiano Ronaldo's red card in the 29th minute. Ronaldo looked to make contact on a defender in the box, then proceeded to give the guy a little pat on the head. And now he's done for the next match in October. Juventus' two goals came later from Miralem Pjanic. The commentators (sorry we're not British and don't know them by name) called it one of the most unfair bookings they'd ever seen.

Lyon Upsets Manchester City, 2-1

Despite 22 shots, eight shots on goal, 70% possession, and seven corner kicks, Manchester City only found the net once (Bernardo Silva, '67). Lyon put up half the shots, only four on goal, and earned just one corner kick. The upset was arguably the biggest Champions League win in Lyon's history.

Other Match Favorites Roll

The most notable clubs in Day 2 action shutout their opponents and won by two or three goals. The list included Real Madrid (3-0 win over Roma), Manchester United (3-0 win over Young Boys) and Bayern Munich (2-0 win over Benfica). Paul Pogba scored twice in United's victory.

Wednesday's Other Scores
