James Conner Running For More Than Money
In 2014, James Conner was the ACC Player of the Year at Pittsburgh (the college). In 2015, he suffered a torn ACL. While rehabbing, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and went through 12 rounds of chemotherapy.
He beat it in a year, recovered from the knee injury, and returned to Pitt in 2016 for another All-ACC season for the Panthers. The Steelers took the Pennsylvania-native in the 3rd round of the 2017 NFL draft, likely expecting him to see a limited role with All-Pro Le'Veon Bell in the backfield.
That expectation rang true in Conner's first season, but he got the nod on Sunday thanks to Bell's holdout... and he gained 192 total yards and 2 touchdowns.
"I realized fear is a choice. I chose to not fear cancer. I chose to fight it and win." - James Conner
While one running back holds out for a bigger payday, the Steelers have a guy who runs for a different purpose.
